flash back to my childhood

this weekend was one of those weekends where i was reminded vividly of my childhood. maybe more so my teenage years, but it was a blast to the past.

i had the opportunity to go to a youth retreat this weekend. i was assigned to be with the beehives, the girls ages 12-13. it make me laugh just thinking about it. first off, drew and i played this game, where you have a word, and you have to name as many songs as possible that have this word in the song. so we were going, and kids starting listening to us, and to come to find out they had no idea what songs we were naming. and i felt they were classic songs, you know like total eclipse of the heart, tearin' up my heart by 'nsync, weezer, ben kweller, journey songs. the list could go on, but it came to a point they just were looking at us like i was weird and
old.

then i watched these youth interact with each other. it is so funny. the liitle deacons, 12-13 boys, were so awkward during the dance, and all the girls were so delighted for the dance, especially the slow dances. i was particularly impressed with the priests, boys age 16-18, is that they were very good about asking the girls to dance the slow dances. that was good!

ok, i think the part that really got me was when it was time to go to bed. i was, as stated before, assigned to be with the beehives. so i get to the cabin, and find about, 6, 12-13 year old girls getting ready for a round of truth and
dare! it was so funny. they all got up the top bunk to ask truth or dare questions. but really i think it was just an excuse to talk about the boys. at one point someone asked for a dare...and the dare was ' i dare you to tell us who you like.'' i think they realized it and just ended up going in a circle telling who each person thought was cute or liked. no one was getting of the hook. they were brutal.

now that i think about it, i should have taught them how to play MASH or true love! they might have had a hay day doing that.

so i was thinking, was
i like that when i was younger? it just makes me laugh to think of my times as a youth. i've gone out with friends and talked with friends from those days, and we do laugh about the things we did as little giddy girls. but 1.) what memories i have and 2.) that is kinda what has developed who i have become. not to say that the MASH game i played when i was 13 determined my eternal destiny, but the friendships that i established and have continued.
i was watching one of my 'shows' and they said...."people keep you going, people are better than no people.'

grateful: i am grateful for my friends, for my friends that have stuck with me. i am pretty good at pushing people away ( i think it is a defence mechanisim), but i think i have come to find my true real friends are those that have stood with me and accept me for my weaknesses. they are what keep me going!

funny moment: so there was a group of youth selling empandas for some sort of fundraiser. well i didnt' think that my family ordered any, because you had to do preordering and so forth. but they came to deliver the empanadas. and you ask how much did my family receive. yes, we had 3 bags full of food! i believe that is 30 empanadas.it is a perfect reflection of what is important to my family: food!

god's hand in my day: i am really being enlightened in many aspects, on many levels. but i have been thinking a lot about our purpose, what i am supposed to be doing with my life. today i got to teach a lesson at church in laurel's (my new calling) and i really came to know that even though i am home from the mission, the lord is still molding me in his hands, and that i need allow him to do so! be me, do what i can, and allow him to make with me what he see in me! thngs are going to be ok, things will be taken care of and things will happen when they need to. i am erally being able to see these things, and know that that is god's hand helping me get a grasp on things.

what kinds of memories of your childhood do you have? what brings a smile to your face as you think about your childhood? skip-it, duck hunt (nintendo), Ace of Base; i saw the sign, AOL instant messaging, boy band mania, POGS, i forget the name of the game.. i think it is Mall Madness, etc.
