a day no one forgets

lately i have been playing this game with a friend. i'll give you a song, and what memories/images/moments does it trigger? surprisingly i had floods of emotions, feelings, and memories come back as i hear certain songs. its really amazing, and fun! to remember all the good and the bad/hard times. memories stick with me.

i remember when the world trade towers fell, on sept 11, i remember people saying that it would be a day we would always remember. we'll remember what we were doing, where we were, how we were feeling. each year we remember the events that happened that morning of sept. 11.

although i was not directly effected by the events, i have floods of emotions come as i think about what happened that day and what happened as a result of those planes crashing. the one thought i have had this year, or that i have reflected a lot on is how we the people came together during that time, and then look at us now. how quickly we revert back to being so self-centered.

glenn beck tweeted 'honor the memory of those lost on sept. 11, but being the people we were on 9/12" how profound! we took care of one another after that day. and i think the american people come together every sept 11 as we remember what happened to innocent people, and how our country really was attacked. but then what happens after sept 11.

i can only hope that we think about someone other than ourselves. can you imagine what the world would be like if we were all kind to one another. if we let someone in trying to merge, if we held the door open for the person behind us. the little things matter! just that one action, one smile, one hello, can bring us together.

i just want to pose one question -- what holds us together when things fall apart?i challenge myself and hope that everyone just takes a moment in their life to think about that stranger next to them.
