from my understanding, mo rivera has been pitching for the yankees for over 15 years (i hope this is right), and this video, just last week, captured his last game at home, in front of the people/fans who obviously loved this player.
it got me thinking, the influence, the example a person can have on thousands and thousands of people. but the more impactful part of this video for me was thinking about how mo felt. he had all his teammates, and a stadium full of fans, and i might dare say his colleagues across the leagues who admired him, and respected for whatever he stood for.
mo rivera was loved by the people.
that feeling of a. being loved my someone else or b. being wanted my someone (or thousands) of people -- is a feel ing i think we all desire, the feeling of being wanted, of being noticed is a difference of night and day. so my reflection has been, how do we become that person who is wanted/loved? how do i strive to be that person that others want to be around, who want to associate themselves, who want to call me their friend.
it is truly the greatest honor to be wanted.
