what would you say the biggest compliment is? i suppose the answer to this could change depending on the day and the situation. i have found one of the biggest compliments is mimicry.
however today -- i had such great experience at the costco gas station. after a day at work, nothing really to enjoyable, i pulled up to fill up on gas. and the kind attendant comes up and begins to fill up my tank. for those of you who have been to minnesota or know of minnesota winters, filling up for gas is one of those winter expereinces you dread doing. so this man was so kind to stand out there and fill up my tank.
as i had to swipe my card, he said some kind words, we made some small chat. i comfortably waited in my car for the tank to fill. i then got out to thank the attendant, once i was full (under $30, that was a shock!), he kindly sent me off, and left me a few last words. he said "thank you for being motivating".
as i drove away, i thought about what that meant - thank you.... for being motivating. THAT is a great compliment. he very well could just be saying a nice thing to make a girl smile (he was an older man), but as i thought about it --- if someone felt that i was motivating -- that i had the potential to make a difference, that is a great compliment.
i only can hope, and strive to be that person that motivates others. how do i become that person... i'm still trying to figure it out.
to the attendant at the costco gas station -- thank you for being such a kind person to help me, to encourage me and to teach me tonight. i only hope i can pass your kindness to another.
